Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago ordained eight men to the priesthood for the Jesuit order on June 14 at St. Ita Church in Chicago. Cardinal Cupich was Bishop of Rapid City from 1998 to 2010. Among the men ordained was Fr. Christopher Williams, SJ, age 35, a former parishioner of St. Joseph Parish, Spearfish. Coincidently, Cardinal Cupich also confirmed Father Williams when he was a student in Spearfish. Father Williams graduated from Spearfish High School in 2009 and is a graduate of Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska. He is assigned to teach theology at Creighton High School. His parents, Steven and Linda Williams lived in Spearfish for more than 20 years and they now reside in Sioux Falls. Also present were two Jesuits who served at Sioux Spiritual Center, Howes, and Holy Rosary Mission, Pine Ridge, Fathers George Winzenburg and Tom Lawler.
