A Safe Environment for Children and Young People
The Catholic Diocese of Rapid City is firmly committed to creating and maintaining the safest possible environment for our children and young people. To report allegations of sexual abuse by church personnel, contact Victim Assistance Coordinator Karen Hendricks. To ensure confidentiality in our outreach to victims, she can be contacted privately at 1-605-499-8459 (cell). Alleged victims are advised of their right to report alleged abuse to civil authorities.
In accordance with diocesan policy, all allegations of sexual misconduct involving children, young people, and vulnerable adults by priests, deacons, lay employees, or volunteers serving the Diocese of Rapid City will be investigated.

55th Annual State Right to Life Convention | September 18-19, 2026
Sioux Falls is hosting the 55th Annual State Right to Life Convention on September 18-19. We are so blessed to host these amazing people, Sr. Deirdre Byrne & Dr. George Delgado, as keynote speakers for the event. I will include a short bio that I put together for each of these speakers.

Walking in the Footprints of Jesus

Terra Sancta Retreat Center, Rapid City
In honor of the Year of Saint Francis (2026–2027)—proclaimed by Pope Leo XIV to mark the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi—Terra Sancta is hosting a special guided retreat, Walking in the Footprints of Jesus and St. Francis.
This retreat will be led by the Sisters of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception from our Sister Diocese in Peoria, Illinois. Sister Jacque, our resident Franciscan Spiritual Director, will be joined by Sister Betty Jean and Sister Janice, who bring years of experience in teaching, parish ministry, spiritual direction, and retreat leadership.
Join us Monday, September 14 at 3:00 p.m. through Friday, September 18 at 1:00 p.m. for a peaceful week of prayer, reflection, and spiritual renewal. Together we will explore core Gospel and Franciscan values—Poverty, Conversion, Contemplation, and Humility—and discover how these timeless virtues can shape our daily lives.
Retreat highlights include: – Eight conferences on essential Gospel values – Opportunities for individual spiritual direction – Personal and communal prayer – Sacred music throughout the retreat – Optional evening activities: adoration, Reconciliation, creative reflection, and faith sharing

Celebrate Priesthood Sunday – September 27, 2026
Join us in celebrating Priesthood Sunday, a special day to thank God for the gift of the priesthood, honor our priests, and pray for future vocations. Much like Father’s Day, this is an opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to the spiritual fathers who guide, serve and pray for us every day. Take a moment to let your pastor know how much you appreciate his ministry whether it’s through a thoughtful note, a phone call, a spiritual bouquet, a home-cooked meal, or a gift card to his favorite restaurant. And don’t forget about our retired priests and those who have served our parish in the past. St. Therese Fall Festival | September 27, 2026
Join us Sunday, September 27, from 10:30 to 1:30 pm for our annual Fall Festival and Roast Beef dinner complete with a salad and dessert bar. “Tune, Text, and Theology” | September 25-26, 2026
National Pastoral Musicians Fall Meeting
Mark your calendars for a special evening of musical prayer at 7pm on Friday, September 25, at Our Lady of the Black Hills Parish in Piedmont with Fr. Ricky Manalo, CSP. Admission is free; everyone is encouraged to bring nonperishables for the local food pantry. There will be a freewill donation to help with expenses.
Fr. Ricky Manalo, CSP, is a Paulist priest, pastoral theologian, and scholar engaged in the global conversation on artificial intelligence and its implications for faith, Catholic social teaching, and pastoral ministry. He holds degrees in Liturgical Studies; Sociology of Religion and Cultural Studies, Theology, Philosophy, and Music (Composition and Piano). He is the Co-Director of The Communion Project, a Paulist initiative addressing political polarization in the U.S. Catholic Church. He has published books and articles on a wide variety of subjects and is popular teacher and speaker. He has received numerous awards for his compositions, publications, and leadership. His pastoral assignments include parish work in Ohio, California, Oregon and Hong Kong. He has provided music for liturgies with Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI, and Pope Francis.
In addition to the evening of Tune, Text, and Theology, Fr. Manalo will speak at Our Lady of the Black Hills Church on Saturday, September 26, on the subject of his latest book: Toward a More Perfect Communion: Catholic Wisdom for a Polarized Age. The morning’s event begins with fellowship at 9am. All are welcome. No charge for the presentation. St. Francis of Assisi Fall Bazaar | Oct 2-4
St. Francis of Assisi, Sturgis, Fall Bazaar begins with a Yard Sale, Friday, October 2 from 8 a.m-5p.m. Saturday events include a Country Story and Silent Auction (following the 5p.m. Mass), and Yard Sale (8a.m.-5p.m.). Sunday features a dinner and carnival following from 11a.m.-1p.m. Adults $15, Children 8-12 $10, children 4-7 $5. To-go boxes will be available for take home meals.

2026 Youth Rally

Join us for our 2026 Youth Rally, October 11, led by Catholic speakers Connor Flanagan and Rachel Herbeck. From impactful talks to engaging, interactive activities, this one-day event will inspire students to live their faith with courage and confidence.
Speakers: Connor Flanagan has been described as a hip-hop artist with a worship leader’s heart, passionate about encouraging others to step into God’s dream for their life. Connor desires for his career to serve as a witness of what can happen when you don’t settle for what the world offers and instead allow God to breathe life into your gifts. Connor’s acoustic roots plus love for hip-hop have allowed him to create a unique sound that is accessible to any audience, and he has opened for Kari Jobe and David Crowder. From driving anthems to acoustic pop, he communicates hope and encouragement to all he ministers to.
Rachel Herbeck is the Director of Young Adult Discipleship for Renewal Ministries and hosts Burning Hearts, a daily podcast and radio program. She received her degree in Catholic Studies from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. She has worked extensively in youth ministry and speaks to youth and young adults at retreats, conferences, and events in the US and Canada. Rachel is passionate about life issues and has worked for multiple pro-life and political organizations in Minnesota and Washington, DC. She formerly worked for the Minnesota Catholic Conference, doing outreach and lobbying for the Catholic Bishops of Minnesota. She currently resides in Plymouth, Michigan.

Special Collection: World Mission Sunday
This year on October 18, Catholics around the world unite in celebration of World Mission Sunday — a day of prayer, reflection, and financial support for the Church’s missionary work in 1,124 mission territories. These are regions where the Church is still young, growing, and often facing poverty, conflict, or persecution.
World Mission Sunday is not just the occasion of another second collection. It is the one Sunday when the entire Catholic Church — every parish, in every country — comes together to pray for and support the missionary efforts of the Church through The Society for the Propagation of the Faith, one of the four Pontifical Mission Societies.

Vita Christi Retreat
Every day, we face a spiritual battle for our hearts, our faith, and our relationship with Christ. The world offers countless distractions and temptations that can pull us away from the life God is calling us to—but He has not left us to face the battle on our own. Through the Sacraments, prayer, Scripture, the Rosary, Mary, and the pursuit of holiness, God gives us the grace and strength we need to stand firm and live faithfully. At Battle Ready, we will explore the reality of spiritual battle, discover the “weapons” God has given us, and learn how to use them to grow in holiness, resist what pulls us away from Christ, and live boldly as His disciples. Come discover what it means to be equipped, strengthened, and ready to stand firm in Christ.

Join us at Our Lady of the Black Hills in Piedmont on Saturday, November 7th, for the Silent Auction and Country Store (Crafts, Baked Goods, Gifts, Jams & Jellies) from 6-7 PM. Then come back on Sunday for the Silent Auction and Country Store, and Carnival Games from 9-1:30 PM with the free will Turkey Dinner served from 11-1:30 PM.
