Welcome to the Diocesan Finance Office! This page has been created to keep you informed about the fiscal responsibilities undertaken by our department.
The Diocesan Finance Office is responsible for the management and coordination of the finances of the Diocese of Rapid City in accordance with the universal code of Canon Law and the policies of the Diocese of Rapid City. Duties include preparing and managing the diocesan budget, maintaining an accounting system according to accepted accounting principles, overseeing investments and cash flow, and providing monthly, quarterly and annual reports. The office handles the chancery payroll and manages employee benefits and property/liability insurance for the diocese and all the parishes and diocesan school.
The Diocesan Finance Office also provides contracted accounting services for the Catholic Parish Contingency Fund Inc, Priest Pension Plan, Priest Retirement & Aid Assoc., Sioux Spiritual Center, Casa Maria Inc., SM Properties LLC, and the Western SD Catholic Foundation. The office also serves as a resource for parish finance offices establishing policies, overseeing procedures, and offering assistance as needed.
The diocese has a full independent audit done each year and an annual report of diocesan operational finances is published annually in the West River Catholic Newspaper.
