Fr. Michael McAndrew
Archdiocese of Dubuque

Like many of the priests of our Archdiocese, I’ve had the privilege of knowing the Bishop-elect in several ways. I first met Fr. Bullock at St. Pius X seminary in Dubuque where I began my studies for the priesthood. As the rector there he was a steady example of priestly fatherhood. It seemed he always knew what was going on in the house (even when he didn’t reside there full time). After a year, Fr. Bullock moved to his last assignment in the Archdiocese at St. Edward Parish in Waterloo. I got to know him there the following summer when I lived at the rectory with him and a couple of my classmates. During that time I got to experience him as a good fatherly pastor and as a friend.

When I went on for major seminary studies at Mundelein Seminary in Chicago, I would come home and stay in Waterloo with Fr. Scott. Every time I showed up he would tell me “You know, Michael, I love it when you come to visit.” He said it so many times I had to start believing it! As a priest myself, I’ve gotten to know Fr. Scott as a brother.

As a brother priest he’s been the one I’ve come to with questions, with joys and sorrows. A couple years ago, we had the joy of experiencing the Holy Spirit’s power together and working on a mission team of priests in our archdiocese.

I know the Bishop-elect to be a man of confident faith in the Holy Spirit and our Blessed Mother. I’m grateful that I’ve been able to learn and grow with him. He’s a big part of my priesthood and I wholeheartedly believe our Lord (and the Blessed Mother) have called him to this new role of service for the good of the Church.
