Presentation celebration in Hill City

Parishioners of St. Rose of Lima, Hill City, participated in a Tamale Cooking Class on February 7. The group made 175 tamales for a parish-wide feed on February 8 to celebrate the Feast of the Presentation (February 2). 

“The idea for the event was the fruit of a conversation between me and some of our Mexican ladies, and my Parish Leadership Team, discussing both how to better unite our parish and bridge the two language groups, as well as which Mexican faith traditions from December-February,” explained Father Mark Horn. 

The celebration began on the Feast of Epiphany when the three kings brought gifts and Wreath Cake for parishioners. The wreath cake, similar to a King Cake, is circular with a tiny baby Jesus baked into them. Tradition dictates that whoever finds the baby brings tamales on the Feast of the Presentation.
