Two women from the Diocese of Rapid City made their final vows as members of the Institute of Catholic missionary sisters known as the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará or Servidoras for short. The institute has sent many sisters to Totus Tuus, the diocesan summer camp for both boys and girls. The Servidoras Institute has both active missionaries and contemplative nuns.

Both Sr. Poveri and Sr. Familiae felt a call to the contemplative branch, through which, by their life of prayer, penance and silence, they seek to prolong the Incarnation of Christ in the world through the evangelization of the culture. The Servidoras currently have 23 contemplative communities in 13 countries. Sr. Poveri is in residence at the Contemplative Community St. Edith Stein, at the Monastery of the Precious Blood in Brooklyn, NY and Sr. Familiae is a member of the Contemplative Community of the Patron Saints of Europe in L’Olleria, Valencia, Spain (https://youtu.be/ckMCLSnPAh4). Each of the contemplative communities is entrusted with a particular prayer intention. The intentions of their communities are for the Salvation of the Jewish People and the New Evangelization of Europe, respectively.

The sisters profess four vows “in order to follow the Incarnate Word more intimately.” Chastity: for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Poverty: manifesting that God is the only true wealth for man. Obedience: even to death on the cross. And Marian Slavery as a total surrender to Mary to better serve Jesus Christ. At their profession, the sisters receive a wedding band and a crown of flowers and signed her Constitution, which is the Rule of her religious order.

Sr. Maria Madonna dei Poveri Julian, is the daughter of Amy and Joe Julian of Beulah, Wyoming, who are parishioners at St. Joseph’s in Spearfish.

Sr. Regina Familiae Wilhelmi, is the daughter of Suzanne and Terry Wilhelmi, who are parishioners of Our Lady of the Black Hills in Piedmont.
