Cor ad Cor: A prayer life I could have never imagined
Let me get to the point, Cor ad Cor changed my life! It really exposed one of the greatest assets of our Catholic faith, the wisdom of those that have come before us, specifically St. Ignatius of Loyola.
If you would have asked me who he was in early fall of 2023, I would have said he’s the founder of the Society of Jesus, the Jesuits. And, like many, including the secular world, I would say, the most popular Jesuit right now is Pope Francis. Today, well my answer would be completely different. I would say St. Ignatius taught me how to spend time with Jesus in daily prayer.
Now, some reading this might think, how could he have taught me, he died over 500 years ago! But he did! And the way he did was through a small group of men I joined each week in the Diocese of Rapid City Cor ad Cor program. Now, I don’t want to paint the picture that applying the prayer regiment of St. Ignatius was easy, it’s not! The first few weeks in my journey in Cor ad Cor was a struggle because I had to reexamine what I thought of prayer and how I practiced it.
Cor ad Cor helped me develop a prayer life that I never imagined I could have. It did this by exposing me to the value of prayer through scripture. It opened the Word of God and taught me to interact with what I’m reading by placing me in the scene, to use my imagination, and meditate on themes and topics prompted by the writings of St. Ignatius.
Our Catholic faith has so many wonderful ways to pray, devotions, meditative prayer like the Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and especially the Mass. Cor ad Cor augmented my prayer life to make it so rich I can hardly explain how life altering it is. It pulls you into a very personal relationship with our Savior in a whole new level; I can honestly say because of Cor ad Cor I meet with Jesus every day and I look forward to our time together. I highly recommend to anyone to take the Cor ad Cor journey.
