A Night for Newman
Saturday, April 4, a large crowd of SDSM&T alumni, faculty, students, and supporters packed the parish hall at Blessed Sacrament Church to learn more about and celebrate the mission of the Rapid City Catholic Newman Center. The evening featured Mass with Bishop Steven Biegler — from the Diocese of Cheyenne, a former chaplain for the Rapid City Newman Center — appetizers, dinner, testimonies from students impacted by the Newman Center, and an address by Bishop Steven on the importance of walking with students, especially during the difficult times of college life. The evening ended with songs from an SDSM&T acapella student choir. The Rapid City Newman Center is located next to the School of Mines but also exists to support other college-age students from around the Rapid City area. One student testimony was from an SDSU Rapid City nursing student who found her fiance by being involved in the Newman Center. She talked about how her faith life has grown by being a part of the Newman Center community.
