The Oglala Sioux Tribe in conjunction with the federal Johnson-O’Malley Program provided school supplies to Rapid City students on August 19 at the Mother Butler Center. Volunteers spent three days sorting crayons, pencils, scissors, notebooks and more. The supplies were bagged by grade levels using Rapid City Area Schools supply lists for quick distribution. Parents registered students at the door by school and grade level and then picked up the packs. Volunteers from St. Isaac Jogues Parish estimated the number of packs given away somewhere around 600.
