Educating others in the faith can enrich and enliven our own. But it can also test our limits, challenge our creativity, and expose our weaknesses, leaving us vulnerable to discouragement and burnout. Thankfully, the task of sharing the Good News without compromise—and without forgetting it ourselves—isn’t new. Generations of holy men and women before us have successfully answered this call and left us blueprints to do the same. In this year’s Refuel Retreat, award-winning author Colleen Carroll Campbell will draw on her extensive research and writing on saints ranging from ancient desert mystics to modern favorites and unpack the lessons they can teach us about evangelizing a hostile culture, dodging the pitfalls of perfectionism, and resisting both dilution and distraction as we keep our eyes on the ultimate prize: helping Jesus save souls.

Colleen Carroll Campbell is an award-winning author, print and broadcast journalist and former presidential speechwriter. Her books include her critically acclaimed journalistic study, The New Faithful; her spiritual memoir, My Sisters the Saints, which won two national awards and has been published in five languages; and her award-winning new release, The Heart of Perfection: How the Saints Taught Me to Trade My Dream of Perfect for God’s, which has also been published abroad. Colleen has written for the New York Times, Washington Post, Christianity Today, America, andNational Review, and appeared on CNN, FOX News, MSNBC, ABC News, PBS, NPR and EWTN, where she hosted her own television and radio shows for eight years. A former speechwriter for President George W. Bush and editorial writer and op-ed columnist for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Colleen is the recipient of two honorary doctorates and numerous other awards and fellowships. She speaks to audiences worldwide and lives on the central coast of California with her husband and their four children, whom she homeschools.
Refuel Conference for Religious Educators is open to all involved in forming others in the faith.
The retreat will begin at 4:30pm on Friday, and will run until 4:00pm on Saturday. Bishop Bullock will be celebrating Mass with attendees on Saturday.
