Permanent Deacon Retreat

The 2026 Annual Permanent Deacon Retreat brought together permanent deacons and men in formation from across the diocese for a weekend of prayer, reflection, formation, and fraternity at Terra Sancta Retreat Center August 28-30. Led by Bishop Scott Bullock, the retreat centered on the theme, “The Permanent Diaconate: A Bishop’s Perspective,” offering participants an opportunity to reflect more deeply on their vocation and ministry in service to the Church.

During the introductory session, Bishop Bullock set the tone for the weekend by inviting participants to reflect on the unique role of the permanent deacon as a servant of Christ and the Church. Throughout the weekend, deacons participated in a series of presentations designed to deepen their understanding of their vocation and ministry focusing on the scriptural foundations of the diaconate, the promises made at ordination and the call to faithful service.

The group also explored the relationships that shape a deacon’s life, including his relationship with Christ, his family, the bishop, priests, fellow deacons, and the people he serves.
