Deacon Candidates Installed as Lectors

On Saturday, November 1, Bishop Scott Bullock presided at Mass which included the Institution as Lector for the current diaconate candidates in formation. The Rite of Institution as Lector is one of the steps toward potential ordination as a permanent deacon. The three main areas of service the Church defines for the diaconate are ministers of word, liturgy, and charity. The institution as lector corresponds to being a minister of the word. As a permanent lector, these men have a vocation to proclaim scripture as a public witness, foster ongoing evangelization and faith formation within the Church. Most lectors in our parishes have a temporary role, delegated by their pastor, which demonstrates the shared responsibility of all the baptized to assist in liturgical celebrations without implying a lifelong commitment.
