September, 21, 1998, Msgr. Blase Cupich, of Omaha, Neb., was ordained the seventh Bishop of Rapid City by Cardinal James Hickey of Washington, DC. The ordination Mass was held at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, Rapid City. Cardinal Cupich now serves as the Archbishop of Chicago, Ill. September 22, he is returning here to celebrate the occasion hosted by Bishop Peter Muhich at Terra Sancta Retreat Center. Cardinal Cupich purchased the former St. Martin Monastery for the Diocese of Rapid City in 2007 when he was serving here. Mass begins at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are required to attend.
