Berreth wins national award

Becky Berreth   At the September 2005 National Federation of Press Women Conference, Assistant Editor Becky Berreth will be honored with an award for her work at the West River Catholic. Berreth took third place in the layout category for the “Youth Matters” page. The page won first place at the South Dakota Press Women Contest in April. It was forwarded to the national competition where it was judged against 40 other state chapter winners.

Thompson coordinator
of Youth Ministry

Susan Thompson   Susan Thompson has been named Coordinator of Youth Ministry for the Diocese of Rapid City. Born in Mobridge, she graduated from McLaughlin High School in 1974. In 1978, she earned a B.S. from South Dakota State University, Brookings, in child development and family relations. She has served as Formation Director and CCD Coordinator in her parish and most recently as the secretary for the Office of Vocations and Youth Commission. As Coordinator of Youth Ministry, her duties include working with the Diocesan Youth Commission, assisting in the planning of youth commission events and handling the day to day activities of the youth commission office. She will also serve as a resource person for parishes planning to establish youth ministry programs and develop a network of youth ministers within the diocese.

   Thompson is a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Rapid City. She and her husband, Bob, have three children. Thompson is available in the Chancery Office all day Mondays and Wednesdays.

Hurtig to chair
Youth Commission

Nancy Hurtig   Nancy Hurtig is the new chair of the Youth Commission. Hurtig succeeds Pat Roe, who has served since 2002. She recently graduated with a B.S. in education from Black Hills State University and has received her Youth Ministry Certification. She has been a youth group leader, chaperoned for Steubenville and World Youth Day events and is the Faith Formation Director at her parish, St. Therese Church the Little Flower, Rapid City.
    As chair of the Youth Commission Hurtig will oversee all activities including budgeting and public relations for the commission. She will also oversee the development of youth ministry at the parish level.
    Hurtig and her husband, Dale, have three children. She can be reached at the St. Therese office from 9 a.m. - noon.
