SYNOD 2002 GOALS

TOP TEN OVERALL GOALS

Goal #1
    All the baptized are called to make an ongoing personal commitment to strengthen their spirituality so as to follow Jesus.

Goal #2
    The diocese will establish general guidelines and expectations for faith formation programs in the parishes.

Goal #3
    Parishes are called to provide ongoing quality faith formation for all youth through activities, education and ministry.

Goal #4
    The parishes will ensure that the entire community fully understands, prepares well and celebrates reverently and effectively the Eucharist and the entire liturgical life of the Church as its highest priories.

Goal #5
    All of the baptized are called to full, conscious and active participation in the celebration of Sunday Eucharist and other sacraments, and the use of sacramentals and other devotions.

Goal #6
    All of the baptized will make knowing and following Christ, the Gospel and His Church the center of family life.

Goal #7
    The parishes will support, educate and offer formation opportunities to strengthen spirituality within and among families and celebrate the vital role of families in parish life.

Goal #8
    Parishes will provide diverse opportunities for faith formation of adults.

Goal #9
    The diocese will uphold the liturgical life of the Church as a high priority by offering effective assistance to parishes and individuals in providing liturgical formation, guidance and training.

Goal #10
    The diocese will enhance communication with all parishes and improve outreach to rural parishes.

GOALS FOR ALL THE BAPTIZED

Goal #1
     All of the baptized are called to make an ongoing personal commitment to strengthen their spirituality so as to follow Jesus.

Goal #2
     All of the baptized are called to full, conscious and active participation in the celebration of Sunday Eucharist and other sacraments, and the use of sacramentals and other devotions.

Goal #3
     All of the baptized will make knowing and following Christ, the Gospel and His Church the center of family life.

Goal #4
     All of the baptized cultivate a daily awareness that in the particular circumstances of their lives and in the limited relationships and opportunities given them, God calls and graces them with his life.

Goal #5
     All of the baptized will prayerfully serve, support and reach out daily to others in need, in imitation of Christ.

Goal #6
     All of the baptized are called to give of the time, talent and treasure that God has entrusted to them.

Goal #7
     All of the baptized are called to develop a daily awareness of being joined to the mission of Christ as they share their faith with others.

Goal #8
     All of the Lakota baptized will be responsible for the life of the Church in their midst.

Goal #9
     All of the baptized joined in the mission of Christ are called to communicate with others.

GOALS FOR ALL THE PARISHES

Goal #1
     Parishes are called to provide ongoing quality faith formation for all youth through activities, education and ministry.

Goal #2
     Parishes will ensure that the entire community fully understands, prepares well and celebrates reverently and effectively the Eucharist and the entire liturgical life of the Church as its highest priority.

     Parishes will support, educate and offer formation opportunities to strengthen spirituality within and among families and celebrate the vital role of f families in parish life.

Goal #4
     Parishes will provide diverse opportunities for faith formation of adults.

Goal #5
     Parishes will establish a plan to regularly invite all people to participate in the life of the Church.

Goal #6
     Parishes will promote an awareness that all the baptized are called by God to a lifelong commitment to service.

Goal #7
     Parishes will establish a social action committee that will organize and coordinate efforts to respond to those in need.

Goal #8
     Parishes will develop a means of communication by which Catholics become aware of news about the Church, their parish, their deanery and new developments in the diocese.

Goal #9
     Parishes will provide opportunities for Lakota people to form and shape parish life.

Goal #10
     Parishes will establish a regular stewardship program.

GOALS FOR THE DIOCESE

Goal #1
     The diocese will establish general guidelines and expectations for faith formation programs in the parishes.

Goal #2
     The diocese will uphold the liturgical life of the Church as a high priority by offering effective assistance to parishes and individuals in providing liturgical formation, guidance and training.

Goal #3
     The diocese will enhance communication with all parishes and improve outreach to rural parishes.

Goal #4
     The diocese will develop a coordinated plan to help parishes address social justice, pro-life and rural issues in their civic and religious communities.

Goal #5
     The diocese is called to support and enhance programs to develop ordained and lay leadership in the diocese.

Goal #6
     The diocese will consider all of the diverse family situations and needs when designing and implementing diocesan programs to build Christ-centered families.

Goal #7
     The diocese will develop a plan for evangelization and re-evangelization that will challenge all parishes to implement an on-going effort to call all people to Christ.

Goal #8
     The diocese will promote understanding and support for each vocation in the church as God's call to live out the universal call to holiness in the particular circumstances of one's life.

Goal #9
     The diocese will work to develop a viable local church that reflects the Lakota culture.

Goal #10
     The diocese will communicate both the diocesan needs and accountability for the support received from the people.

Goal #11
     The diocese will assist in the creation of a regular parish stewardship program to support diocesan programs.

Goal #12
     The diocese will make quality Catholic school education affordable and available across the diocese.
